About Lee Edward Födi

Known as the “Wizard of Words,” Lee Edward Födi has been writing and illustrating stories about magic, monsters, and mystery for as long as he can remember. He grew up on a farm in Osoyoos, BC, and spent every sunday with his grandparents. His grandmother, who was originally from Austria, and his grandfather, who was originally from Hungary, filled his head with many tales from their own childhoods in the old country. Many of these stories told of woeful experiences during times of war and suffering--but there were also many that were simply wonderous, speaking of magic and myth and folklore.

Födi now works full time as a children's author, illustrator, and speaker. He is the author and illustrator of Kendra Kandlestar and the Box of Whispers (2005), Corranda’s Crown (2002), and the forthcoming Kendra Kandlestar and the Door to Unger. He has also illustrated several picture books for other authors.

Födi is an engaging public speaker, specializing in presentations and workshops for elementary-aged children. He is a co-founder of Dream Workshop, a program delivered through the Creative Writing for Children Society of Vancouver (CWC). CWC is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the creativity, confidence, and capacity of children through well-tailored writing programs, workshops, and artful activities with a mentoring group composed of educators, published writers, and artists. Födi has a continuing role as the Chief Mentor and Instructor of Dream Workshop, and he finds that he is constantly inspired by the enthusiasm and ingenuity of his young students.

Födi studied at the University of British Columbia and has a degree in English Literature and a diploma in Fine Arts. He is an active member of the Canadian Children’s Book Centre, the Society of Children’s Book Writers & Illustrators, the Children’s Writers & Illustrators of British Columbia, and the Federation of BC Writers.

Födi lives in Vancouver, the beautiful Canadian city nestled between the mountains and the Pacific Ocean.
